#22: How To Get To Heaven
Sunday Jul 14, 2013
Sunday Jul 14, 2013
2 Corinthians 3
1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
- How does a person get to heaven?
- It’s not a course you take to get to heaven.
- You can’t depend on being good to get to heaven.
- Paul is writing to the church.
- The problem was people were going around with forged letters to say they were in the ministry.
- God doesn’t give letters of recommendation.
- The proof of the word of God is what it does.
- When you read the Bible you are moved to action.
- You have to make a choice, to accept Jesus or reject him.
- God isn’t looking for some big something or some big somebody.
- If God was looking for some big something or somebody then he wouldn’t pick me or you.
- God chooses the little things to accomplish his will.
- Our sufficiency is in God.
- We see a contrast between the Old and New Testament in several different ways.
- In the Old Testament the letter of the law condemns us.
- In the Ten Commandments, four of them was about man’s relationship with God, but the other 6 were man’s relationship to man.
- Paul describes the difference between the Mosaic Law and the period of grace which we live in today.
- You can’t be saved by the law.
- David wasn’t saved by the law, he was an adulterer.
- Moses wasn’t saved by the law, he was a murderer.
- But both of them were men after Gods own heart.
- God made a way for us to get to heaven
- The way was the death and resurrection of Christ.
- Some people don’t see that Christ is the way.
- Just good works can’t get you to heaven.
- When our heart turns to the Lord then our veil will be taken away.
- In the word of God we see the unveiled Christ.

#21:The Leading of The Holy Spirit
Sunday Jul 07, 2013
Sunday Jul 07, 2013
- The Holy Spirit still leads today.
- We should be led by the Holy Spirit not driven by it.
14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
- The Bible says when we get saved then we are adopted into the family of God.
- When the Bible says “Abba” it is a term of endearment for our father.
- God led Christ by the Holy Spirit just as he leads us today.
- The Holy Spirit led in the Bible and leads today too.
- When the Holy Spirit pricks our heart we need to do something about it.
- If we are led by the Holy Spirit, we can expect to be led into a deeper understanding of the things of God.
- The Holy Spirit will never lead you to do something contrary to the Bible.
- We can expect to be led by the Holy Spirit.
- The Holy Spirit might lead us out of our comfort zone sometimes.
- Jesus wants us to be a light in a dark place.
- We cannot be effective if we are not yielding to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
- God desires nothing more than to bless us.

#20:In The Valley, Pt. 2
Sunday Jun 23, 2013
Sunday Jun 23, 2013
Psalm 23
1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.Matthew 5:11-12
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Everyone gets into valleys.
- You’re either in a valley, coming out of one, or on the mountain.
- Valleys aren't one way streets.
- God will always make a way.
Where do you do most of you living?
- Do you live mostly in the valley or on the mountain?
- The valley is where we do most of our struggling.
- There are many different valleys.
- Rebelling against God is rebelling against our best interest.
Valleys are unexpected.
- We shouldn't stay in the valley.
- Don't let discouragement get you down.
- God may have us in a valley to purify us.

#19:In The Valley, pt.1
Sunday Jun 16, 2013
Sunday Jun 16, 2013
Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
- You are either on your way into the valley, coming out of it, or on the mountaintop.
- Where do you spend most of your time? In the mountains or in the valleys?
- Valley experiences teach us about life.
-
- God’s grace, leading and mercy will never fail us. His way might not be the same as the way we planned.
- God nows what we can take and what we can't take.
- Someone who is good to call while you are in a valley is someone who is walking with the Lord.
- God never intends for us to stay in the valley.
- People say that you can meet God on the mountain, but in reality, you can meet God anywhere.
- David relates this to a flock of sheep because he was a Shepard.
- Just like David placed himself between the beast and the sheep, Jesus places himself between the devil and us.
- Our God is not shallow.
- The mountain is where we meet God, and the valley is where we do our struggling.
-
- The valley is very different than the mountaintop.
-
The valley is where life becomes challenging, battles are fought, feelings become hurt, and attitudes are involved.
-
In the valley, we struggle with our fears, hopes, and painful circumstances.
-
The valley is inevitable.
-
God will meet you in the valley.

#18:Standards of Successful Communication
Sunday Jun 09, 2013
Sunday Jun 09, 2013
Proverbs 23:26
26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Proverbs 3:3
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
Ephesians 4:15
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
2 Timothy 1:7
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Five Standards of Successful Communication
1. Caring
- If you do not care, it shows in everything you do.
- Don’t tell someone how much you know until you have showed me how much you care.
- Caring means when someone is talking, you look them in their eyes, and give them your undivided attention.
2. Praise
- Negativity is the devil's language and it will destroy your marriage, business, schoolwork, any aspect of your life.
- Negativity will ruin the effectiveness of your communication.
- We should never let anyone close to our heart if they are negative about you.
- You have to praise your mate, employee, teacher, students, etc.
- We need to make sure that the person we marry is the person God wants us to marry.
- If you keep your focus on Christ you will not be disappointed in your marriage.
3. Truth
- Tell the truth but don’t be brutal about it.
- If something is irritating you then you must let it out and talk about it or it will turn into other behavior.
4. Faith
- For ladies, it means that once you have spoken to your husbands about your feelings, then you need to have faith to let God be the enforcer.
- Allow God the time to speak to your heart so you have the right words to say when you speak to others.
5. Surrender
- Our mouths belong to God.
- The Holy Spirit will never lead a married couple into two different directions.
- Communication is important for any relationship.

#16:Temptation From Sin
Sunday Jun 02, 2013
Sunday Jun 02, 2013
- Temptations fall into two categories.
- The desire to do wrong things.
- Involves wanting to get drunk, commit adultery, steal, lie, etc.
- Not to do the right thing.
- Involves staying home from church, not tithing, not sharing your faith in Jesus Christ with others, etc.
- Every time you sin you are hurt.
- Lies that open the door for temptations traps.
-
- Trap number 1: It couldn’t happen to me!
-
- I’m better than that. That temptation won’t happen to me. We are the most vulnerable when we believe we are the strongest.
- Trap number 2: I am the only one with this problem.
-
- We think that no one has felt such intense pressure to give into a particular temptation then we are right now.
- Trap number 3: God has abandoned me.
-
- God will never leave us, he is faithful.
- We don’t always feel the closeness of God when we are going through storms, and some will take that to mean that God is not with them anymore.
- God will never leave us nor forsake us.
- Sometimes we are not aware of God’s presence but that doesn’t mean that God is not with us.
- As we get deeper into temptation we start to move away from God and because of that we may not sense the presence of him clearly.
- God is faithful and wants the best for us.
- Trap number 4: I don’t have a choice.
-
- One of Satan’s most used lies is that the temptation overwhelms us and we don’t have a choice in the matter.
- You are putting the responsibility on somebody else when you blame the devil.
- There is never a situation where we are forced into sin, it is always a choice.
- Sin will ruin and destroy us.
- How do we stay out and away from temptation?
-
- Christians should quote the Bible when tempted. Jesus quoted scripture when he was tempted.
- Christians should hide God’s word in their hearts.
- We need to fight sin.
- We should pray for deliverance from our sins. God will clear us from all of our sins.
- Confession means more than to say sorry, it means to call sin what God calls sin.
- We can’t call God our Lord then fall right back into temptation.
- Faith is having trust in our Heavenly Father. We should walk by faith and not anything else.
- When we get our eyes off Jesus then we start to fall into temptation again.
- Jesus says to keep our eyes on him. We need to follow after Jesus and not after anything else.

#17:Faith In The Storms of Life
Sunday May 19, 2013
Sunday May 19, 2013
Mark 4:35-41
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Mark 11:22
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
- Storms often come at inconvenient times
- Storms sometimes happen in the middle of God’s will
- Despite the fact that they were the close to Jesus the storms still came.
- Six questions about how we can get through the storms of life that we must ask ourselves.
- 1. What did Jesus want them to do?
- Jesus wanted them to take their problem to their father
- There were three options that the disciples had
- Wake Jesus up in their fear and ask for help. Which is what they did.
- Keep bailing. They could have tried to handle the situation themselves.
- Pray to their Father for help. Which is the first place we should go to when we have a problem of any magnitude.
- Jesus’s primary rebuke was that they had no faith.
- 1. What did Jesus want them to do?
-
- 2. How will Jesus respond to our storms?
- He rebuked what caused the problem and calmed the troubling circumstances.
- It is important for us to understand that God can solve our problems and deal with the difficult circumstances that result.
- 2. How will Jesus respond to our storms?
-
- 3. How do we respond to our storm?
- When we think of fear in this passage we think of the disciple’s reaction to the storm.
- Often times the fear of the storm is greater than the storm itself.
- There is another fear that the disciples had which was a fear of the Lord.
- When we face a storm do we focus on our fear of the storm or our fear of the Lord?
- Are we in awe of the power of the storm or are we in awe of the power of the Lord?
- When we focus on the power of the Lord then it puts the power of the storm in a much clearer perspective.
- 3. How do we respond to our storm?
-
- 4. What about when my problem is really big?
- Jesus bring great calm to great problems.
- Sometimes our problems are past the everyday problems.
- Jesus can and will bring great calm to great storms that we face.
- 4. What about when my problem is really big?
-
- 5. When does God’s power show up?
- God’s power shows up when Jesus was raised.
- We need God’s power to show up to deliver us from our storms.
- 5. When does God’s power show up?
-
- 6. What is God’s problem in our storm?
- God’s biggest problem is not stopping our storm.
- God’s biggest problem is us finding our faith.
- God has all the resources to fix our storm, the only problem he has is finding where our faith is.
- God has all the power he needs to take care of our problems and difficult circumstances.
- What God has trouble with is finding the people who believe that he can take care of their problems.
- 6. What is God’s problem in our storm?
- God uses storms to make us more dependent on him, to make us have more faith in him, to be able to testify to other people later on how great your God is, and to give testimony to others about how God got you out of your storm.

#15:Choices
Friday May 10, 2013
Friday May 10, 2013
- Life is all about choices.
- God gave us the power of choice and the responsibility of living with the choices we make.
- God also gave us boundaries to serve as guidelines because he loves us.
- God did not want us to be programmed robots. Instead, he gives us freedom to choose, to love, and to serve Him.
- There are regular choices and there are life-changing choices.
- There are only choices upon the shelf. To live for God or to live for self.
- We need to keep in mind the boundaries that God has put around us.
- Religion that is only do's and dont's becomes frustration and powerless.
- There is an attraction to "don'ts" in life.
- Because of the sin of Adam and Eve, sin and death came into the world.
- God, never intending for there to be death on Earth, needed to set boundaries.
- Adam and Eve's sin was passed down through their bloodline to all people. All people have sinned as a result.
- Only Jesus Christ did not have sin as God chose Mary, a virgin who knew no man, to give north to him. Because of his virgin birth, Jesus did not inherit the sin from Adam and Eve.
- God made a way through his son, Jesus Christ.
- The serpent
-
- Manipulated Adam and Eve by telling them a lie
- He said "Ye shall not surely die."
- He got them to believe they would live as if they would never die
-
- The secular, modern world thrives on unreality
- The first sin involved eating.
- No matter how good the garden looks, there's always a snake in the garden.
-
- As an example, the internet is a garden, but, there are hackers and porn peddlers in that garden. They make up the snake in that garden.
- Never sever your ties with your children.
- God needs to bring people to a point to where they realize that they are a sinner in need of a savior. That is real love.
- The apostle Paul saw in Jesus "the second Adam" who reversed everything the first Adam did.
-
- The first Adam:
- sinned because he wanted to be God
- wanted to climb the top of the ladder over everyone else
- put the blame on everyone else
- said its too late and that he's made all the bad choices.
- lived as if he would never die.
- thought of "The Good Life" (what we have).
- The second Adam:
- was God and became sin for all of us
- came down the ladder so He could lift up everyone else
- took the blame and said you have a new start and to go live your life like God intended.
- came to good news. It's never too late. The first step toward heaven is right here where you are.
- died so that all of us might live.
- said its who you have.
- transformed the first Adam
- The first Adam:

#14:The Blessings of Giving
Sunday Mar 20, 2011
Sunday Mar 20, 2011
- 1 Timothy 6:17-18
17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded; nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;"
18 "That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;"
- Should we as believers always be generous?
- Satan's philosophy is: "What's mine is mine and what's thine is mine."
- Sometimes as adults we can hold back.
- As believers we should not hoard what has been given to us but be generous and willing to share.
- The Bible says that it is more blessed to give than it is to receive.
- God blesses us that we may bless others.
- We need to encourage one another in the goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The word "blessing" represents an important biblical concept:
- When you ask God to bless someone, you are asking Him to intervene in their life and meet their needs.
- Why does God save us?
- To keep sin from destroying our lives
- Sin cannot enter into heaven
- God has taken care of sin through the shedding of Jesus' blood on the cross.
- To be conformed unto the likeness of his son.
- To make us trophies for his grace.
- Ephesians 2:5-7
- 5 "Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together, with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)"
- 6 "And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:"
- 7 "That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus."
- Ephesians 2:5-7
- To accomplish his work on Earth through obedient children.
- To keep sin from destroying our lives
- How did Jesus set an example for us?
- By serving….
- Luke 22:27 "For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as he serveth."
- Jesus took the lower position and went to the cross and died for our sins.
- Jesus also:
- Healed the sick
- Forgave sins
- Raised the dead
- Comforted his followers
- Was patient with those that didn’t understand
- Gave peace for those who were worried
- Sacrificed himself for the sins of humanity
- How should we serve others?
- Jesus saved us
- We should preach the gospel
- Jesus loved us
- Keep fervent in our love for one another
- Jesus forgives our sins
- Forgive those who have wronged us
- Be kind to one another
- Jesus provides for us
- Be generous with others
- Jesus teaches us the truth
- We should share our spiritual insights with others
- Galatians 6:6 "Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things."
- Jesus comforts us
- We can console others
- Jesus encourages us
- We should lift up others
- Jesus saved us
- If you own something that you're not willing to give up, you don't own it, it owns you.
